In order to protect our line, breed and the individual dogs,
Foxfire companion puppies are
sold with AKC limited registration and must be spayed or
neutered within 120 days from the date of purchase. The
breeder will retain registration papers until written proof of
alteration by a licensed Veterinarian is received. As
the buyer of a Foxfire companion puppy, you not only agree to
spay or neuter the dog, but to prevent the dog from producing
any puppies. As such, any breach of this agreement will result in ownership reverting to the
breeder as well as liquidated damages. A delay due to
medical reasons, which is confirmed in writing by a licensed Veterinarian, would not
be subject to the 120 day spay and neuter requirement.
We recommend
spaying or neutering a puppy between five and six months of
age. There is no evidence that early neutering or spaying of
Toy breed dogs contributes to growth issues as it can in
larger breeds. However, early spay does prevent mammary
tumors and of course uterine issues from developing later in
life. Early neutering prevents testicular cancer, prostate
issues and reduces likelihood of marking in males. Please
discuss the most appropriate age for your puppy to be altered
with your own veterinarian. We recommend removing deciduous
teeth at the time of spay or neuter as well as microchipping
your TFT at this time.
